Our new Diesel Driver Experiences offer you the unique opportunity to take control of one of our historic engines, either the TIC No.35 or Reyrolles No.2. This is a fantastic experience for any train enthusiast or anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure.

What's Included:

• Return trip from Marley Hill to Sunniside driving an historic diesel locomotive.
• Complimentary Day Travel: Experience Pass holders and one guest can enjoy unlimited train travel for the entire day.

Price: £100 per person

Age Requirement: 21 years and above

Experience Times:

11.30am for 11:45am - 12:15pm

12.45pm for 1:00pm - 1:30pm

2.15pm for 2:30pm - 3:00pm

Each session lasts 30 minutes, giving you ample time to learn the basics of operating these magnificent machines under the guidance of our experienced crew. Whether you’re a seasoned railway enthusiast or a curious newcomer, our Diesel Driver Experience is designed to be both educational and exhilarating.

Parking & start information:

Car parking is available at Andrews House station (NE16 5ET), free of charge. Your experience will start from Marley Hill welcome building - just across the bridge from the car park. Here you will be met by one of our Tanfield greeters.

Refunds & Cancellations:

If the railway needs to cancel or rearrange your Experience, we will contact you as soon as possible. However due to the nature of steam engines, there are occasions when this is not possible.
